With the support of the South Marmara Development Agency, an initiative launched by the Çanakkale Municipality in late 2024 has resulted in the city’s official inclusion in the European Ceramic Route, approved by the Council of Europe. The application was unanimously accepted by the relevant committee.
The European Ceramic Route has been bringing together cities renowned for their ceramic heritage since 2012, forming a cultural network that celebrates and promotes the art of ceramics. Cities along the route include Aveiro (Portugal), Boleslawiec (Poland), Talavera de la Reina and Castelló de la Plana (Spain), Deruta and Faenza (Italy), Gmunden (Austria), Höhr-Grenzhausen and the Selb Porzellanikon Museum (Germany), Limoges (France), as well as cities from Malta, Slovakia, Ukraine, Croatia, the Netherlands, Greece, Azerbaijan, and Norway. From Turkey, İznik, Avanos, and Kütahya had already been part of this prestigious network. With its inclusion, Çanakkale now stands alongside these international ceramic hubs.
Through this recognition, Çanakkale's contributions to the ceramic arts will reach broader audiences, strengthening its visibility and collaborations on an international scale.
